The U.S. Department of Education has been dragging its feet for years on processing Defense to Repayment (DTR) applications. With the recent decision in the Sweet vs. Devos lawsuit, they have finally begun to process these applications, and many are being fully and partially denied. These rejections are a big blow, and The Debt Collective is hosting a call for DTR applicants who are still waiting or who have received denials. We will collectively discuss how each of us are processing or being impacted by this, what this means for us moving forward, and what next steps are possible in the fight for debt cancellation and justice.
