Organizing to Win College for All in Nevada's 3rd Congressional District

This action is for everyone who lives in Nevada’s 3rd congressional district. (Not sure which district you live in? Look it up here.)

We want to organize people to put pressure on members of Congress (or people who are running to become members of Congress) to cancel all student debt and make public universities completely free. This organizing can take many forms. Reach out to each other, start talking and making plans. Here is some information that you might find helpful.

Rep. Susie Lee (D) has not yet taken a position on H.R. 3473 College for All Act of 2019 (this bill would make all public colleges and universities free) or H.R. 3448 Student Debt Cancellation Act of 2019 (this bill would cancel all $1.6 trillion of student debt). Can you force Rep. Lee to co-sponsor or publicly support these bills?

You can contact your rep yourself, or you can use YDSA’s tool, which will help you do so automatically.

Use the comments below to plan and coordinate with each other on a district-wide level.

The Indivisible Guide provides good advice about how to set up a meeting with your members of congress (or the people currently campaigning for office), how to show up at town halls, how to write letters to the editor, etc. We can do all of that and more. Feel free to get creative and come up with your own plans in addition to these tried and true methods.

Use this study by economists at the Levy Institute which outlines several positive effects of canceling all student debt.

The Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) have a great resources about organizing for College for All. If there is a YDSA chapter near you please reach out and coordinate with them.

RETURN TO THE MAIN COLLEGE FOR ALL THREAD :house:

Hi there,
I am here in Las Vegas, Nevada’s 3rd District. Today, I attended the Town Hall with Rep. Susie Lee.

> She really needs to hear from us. So if you are a local. Please post here and we can start a local group and strategize on writing and calling actions.

**

In the video above, she gives pretty much the same response that she gave to my question today.
I asked her to tell us what she has been doing to protect defrauded borrowers and ensure that the for-profit abuse does not continue. She blamed Betsy Devos (which I think the Dems love to have as a skape goat for not doing enough to force the issue.) And she went on to say she is creating solutions through pell grant and lower interest rates.

This is unacceptable and we need to pressure here to Co-sign the bills named above :point_up_2:

Here is her response at today’s town hall…
It is really slow uploading videos, will post more as they are available.

We don’t want a “bang for our buck” Susie! We are talking about our human right here. Not just what we get from buying a toaster!

… I cannot wait to write her back after listening to this again.

Shout out to @Nevada who here wants to write in with me?

@Nevada is anyone interested in joining me at this event.
Let’s make sure Susie Lee hears directly from us.

she wants to hold Devos accountable. I think she shows up pretty weak when she does ‘try’.
Let’s go talk to her about her plan.

Susie Lee responded to me through a Tweet.

Here is the resolution she is pushing forward.
