My loans and those of my kids (yes, we are all up to our necks) is with Nelnet. I don’t understand why they handle these loans as if they are mortgages? Why such huge monthly payments?

Even if the debt is forgiven, it might be taxed, and that would be worse for some who would get a tax bill. The income tax on forgiven debt needs to be dropped.
