Hi, everyone! I am a teacher at a Charter School. I recently caught a very bad respiratory problem from the school I work at. I missed almost 2 weeks. I work thru an agency which is why I do not currently have health insurance…and was informed that I need to have at least worked a year at the school. I started there in September of 2024. If anyone knows what options there are please respond, the clinic has not been helpful. And it just has a payment plan that I have chosen to use, but I have so many bills I will be short for a few months. $800 may not sound lot too some but it is a lot to me.
First check what the clinic will do to you if you don’t pay or only pay part of the payment plan - cut off care, sue you? If sue you after you are in collection then make sure you have very little money in your bank account to lose (although they can garnish your wages) and stash cash in safe place/safety deposit box, etc.
See if you can get food from a food bank or church. That will cut back on food expenses
For the future look at ACA (Obama insurance) and what that would cost to have health insurance that way. Also in the future get care from a facility that won’t cut off care or sue you if you default on what you owe.
Figure out which bills are the most important - rent, utilities, phone, internet if you need it and pay them first.
While gofundme accounts often raise zero dollars that is free to set one up.
Can you find some tutoring jobs, babysitting on the weekend, or other temp work to earn that and then quit when you have it?
