Student Debt Protests

I am interested in organizing student debt protests and even a mass student default to bring attention to the student debt crisis in the US. This is really just a form of slavery. I am tired of it.

I think it is fine to try to try to change student debt through legislative action; however, there needs to be a mass organization of student debtors to bring attention to our crisis.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot in the last year. It seems like another economic crash is inevitable, and I think it’s likely that what happened to the housing market in 2008 will happen to student loans this time around. However, to make a mass default effective (as far as long-term change), it would have to be intentional rather than people defaulting for lack of any better option.

The biggest problem I see is that we need enough people across the country who are willing to hold out even given the pressures that will be put on some or all of us, and who aren’t going to drop off once things get hard.

Student Debt Strike in 2019?

Hi folks. A lot of people have been posting here on different places about organizing a big, organized strike of student loans. Let’s discuss on this thread. Here is what we know: There is $1.5 trillion in student debt (and counting) in the US. Most of this is federal loans. One million people go into default every year. Almost half of all student loan holders are NOT paying their loans. At the Debt Collective, organizers have been thinking about putting together a strike to make demands. Would you join a campaign like this? Please share your thoughts below.

I just joined and am a little overwhelmed by the user guide and the technology, and not sure how or if reading and writing posts is actually DOing something, but I do want to participate in a massive legal non financially suicidal student debt strike.

Yes being relieved would better our Fresh future, I’m awaiting disability hearing. I didn’t get degree. I live below the poverty level. Faced several eviction. Even finding a new apartment or trying to get a credit card impossible with large debt on credit report. I’m a loner a single mom of two adult son’s.
It’s been a challenge. I’m near 50. I pray that government will consider changing for WE the people. Rather than division We standing together with the hope of getting out of the Debt. Especially with uncertainty of our New World with the Corona virus. Taking lives, tomorrow is not a promise We can’t leave our love one’s with the burden of Debt. They could never afford funerals let alone!!!
